Family

Parent (father perhaps) and daughter. Yes, the two fledgling Bald Eagles are often perched on top of the eagle enclosure, and are huge compared to our two male eagles. Larger size equals females.

Our New Peregrine

Our new female Peregrine has joined us, 19 days old, from NorthGenFalcons in Port Angeles, Washington.  The nightmare Alaska Air flight from Seattle began with missing the first at noon because of a "dry ice/kidney transplant" in cargo. I guess no animals with dry ice. Then at the airport I was told they skipped the next flight because of fire equipment in cargo (!)  So at 10 pm  she finally arrived, took almost an hour to get her from cargo, but alive and a happy ending at midnight. Fine now and could have been bad, all that time in the kennel. Whew. Stay tuned....

Twenty Years

I just found a copy of that top photo, and what a flashback. It was 2001 just after construction by Mike Hupe and Dave Plummer, my designs and even featured in THE Raptor guide by University of Minnesota. So I just got this second one, moments ago. That first building on the left was constructed a few years later for the Harris's Hawk, Chesty and now hope to Simon and Sonora.  I am sure proud of this place. Look at the vegetation=shade!

Wrong!

This whole time I thought the eagle nest was going to be later at fledging than previous ones, and wrong! Here was a youngster, out of the nest on July 3rd! How patriotic if he had waited a day.

Eagle Beach

Last evening a quick trip to the beach by the house revealed a young Bald Eagle! Baby from across the river, fledging two weeks earlier than I predicted? Nope. A year old bird judging from the plumage.
